Strain your paint by pouring it
through a nylon stocking. Even new paint can have colour or pigment
lumps.
Prepare your wall surface with a
light sanding. In kitchen areas or wherever grease problems are present
wash first with T.S.P. (Tri-Sodium Phosphate)
If painting with latex over oil
based semi-gloss or gloss (not necessary for flat) painted surface then
ensure that the surface is thoroughly sanded.
Caulk around doors and windows
for a professional finish look. Type of caulking will vary with surfaces
and other conditions.

Always ensure the painting area
is well ventilated.
Dig out cracks and nail holes and
then fill them with an indoor spackle. Sand and then prime the patched
area prior to painting.
In most cases a cloth drop sheet
should be used. paint stays wet longer on plastic drop sheets making it
more likely to track paint through the house.
Use a premium angle brush to
ensure straight cuts on your windows, doors and ceilings.
Give preference to premium paints
